Judas and the Black Messiah

Judas and the Black Messiah ★★★

It just felt like something was missing here and it didn’t add up to what I felt should’ve been a more impactful ending.

Daniel Kaluuya to no surprise gives an award-worthy performance. His work in a small role in Widows assured me he would dominate this performance. And every moment he is on screen is captivating. And Lakeith stanfield is not far behind, giving a really understated but excellent performance of a man clearly torn in so many directions. Despite the two great performances, everything else just felt very surface-level and a bit messy. I didn’t think the story of the two men came together in an interesting way and all our secondary characters just blended together. Its a decent movie but could’ve delivered a lot more. Maybe I’m just OD’ed on politics but all these political movies that are receiving so much praise all seem pretty safe and by the numbers.
