Catherine Stebbins’s review published on Letterboxd:
takes a great concept and places another great concept on top of it. my favorite of the franchise because it has too many great scenes/moments/effects/scares to pass up, and it has a post-Labyrinth feel to it that I love. the only film of the franchise to truly feel like fantasy-horror, and that’s a special kind of wavelength to possess. genuinely frightening the way the kids fears/disabilities/pasts are used against them. and through we get too little time with the ensemble in favor of lame Freddy backstory and lots of Craig Wasson, the little we do get is fantastic.
