    A Face in the Crowd

I try not to read reviews before I write my own, but I’m gonna go ahead and assume that most of them center discussion on how this film holds a mirror up to society and reflects our obsession with celebrities and celebrity culture, because that is what the movie is about (and it does a good job at that). I’m not sure I could add anything new to that discussion, and I would rather talk about something else, any way.…

  • Shane

Shane is a stranger riding through a little fledgling town. He exchanges pleasantries with local man Joe Starett and his family, when suddenly arrives a gang of troublemakers intent on scaring all the homesteaders off their land. Assuming Shane to be part of the gang, Starett tries to chase him off, rifle in hand. But when Shane sticks around and stands up to questioning from the gang, Starett realizes that Shane is a stand up guy. And so begins the…

    “Welcome to home, bloody home”

A bunch of people get lost on a foggy evening and end up at a gothic mansion in the middle of nowhere. The lady who owns the place tells them it belonged to her aunt, a witch who died in an automobile accident along with her “ugly” chauffeur. This information is rather alarming, given that one of our guests was pursued through the cemetery just outside by a pair that fits their description…

But other than that, this was pretty good.

Stacy Keach as the American truck driver hauling frozen pig carcasses…

“Inspired by” the true life case of Leopold and Loeb, in that two rich preppy young men decide to commit a murder for the thrill of it, and because they think they belong to some superior subset of humanity that can get away with murder because they are just too damn smart to get caught. The entire thing takes place over the course of one evening, when the boys commit the murder and then host a dinner party with friends and…

    Night of the Demon

A skeptical psychologist takes over the investigation of a satanic cult after his colleague dies a mysterious death attributed to a hex. Accompanied by the niece of the slain man, he sets out to discover whether the leader of the cult is a charlatan, or whether he himself is in danger of succumbing to the same curse.

This was so much fun. From the moment it began I was hoping it would live up to the dramatic, ominous music of…
