Horse Girl

Horse Girl ★★★

Review In A Nutshell:

With earnest intention to empathise and dig into the nature of mental illness in the modern age - with a sprinkle of David Lynch to be found here and there, Horse Girl is a film that feels hindered by its own storytelling, with Jeff Baena seemingly accumulating all these ideas but unable to stitch them together in a manner that is both intellectually provoking and overall entertaining. It is spearheaded by a committed and dynamic performance from Alison Brie, of which I can say with confidence has been her career-best. That being said, its a strong performance that is trapped in a problematic film. Let us hope for an upward momentum from here on out for both the director and the actress.
