Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ★★★★½

This isn’t fiction. This is just how it is between Asian sons and their fathers.

Finally. Was really looking forward to this and I’m beyond happy to have enjoyed it end to end. I felt the heart and the emotion in the story. This strained relationship between son and father and even between brother and sister resonated with me. I thought this was a very good origin story for Shang-Chi and I can’t wait to see more. The martial arts action was often just insane. Electric, with so much rhythm and even one action scene felt romantic. I’m so happy for Simu Liu as this was a hell of a breakout movie role for him. You could tell he worked his ass off during those action scenes. Plus, I really enjoyed the chemistry between him and Awkwafina. Tony Leung was also really great. I’m still surprised they got him in the MCU but I’m so glad, he has such strong screen presence.

Yeah, I really could’ve used this when I was younger so I didn’t have to grow up always idolizing white guys. Regardless, it puts a smile on my face knowing that countless others can grow up looking up to a character like Shang-Chi. Another winner in the MCU and it has me feeling good.
