Roma

Roma ★★★★

Alfonso Cuarón is truly a master of his craft. Every aspect of this is just so controlled. I found myself forgetting that this was in black and white since I was just struck by how stunningly staged every moment was. With his steady camera movements, Cuarón depicts life and the greater society at a time of change. Roma opened my eyes as to how vital family bonds are, so that we never have to face life's difficulties alone.

Yalitza Aparicio is phenomenal. What will stay with me the most is Cleo's personal story. All the time we spend with her makes what transpires all the more heartbreaking. Cleo is a house worker by definition, but it's impossible to ignore how much of a mother she was to all the children.
