Favorites are my most recent highly-rated movies (excluding re-watches)
Mostly watching horror & comedy, but open to other things as well.
This gave me a lot more feelings than I expected. The romance / horror / drama are blended together so well, and it was a captivating watch for me.
Even though the execution isn't perfect, I'm always fascinated by the concept of this movie. Once it gets past the first 20 minutes or so (I could really do without it), I'm completely invested. The post-9/11 paranoia works very well, and it's just a great setup for found footage.
I also have to give credit to the excellent marketing campaign before Cloverfield was released, and I think some of that excitement will always be attached to this movie for me.
Out of all the indie horror movies that could get a chance in theaters, we get this weirdly religious "don't be afraid of covid" mess. I guess props to the marketing team for successfully disguising it in the synopsis / trailer since I wouldn't have actually gone to see it at the theater otherwise. I just wanted a basic silly jumpscare movie, but I was deceived!
This was a fun teen slasher! I am perfectly fine with Netflix continuing in this pattern because these are cozy movies for me. I wish it would have gone more in-depth with some of the characters, but it works well enough & kept me entertained.
