𝘋𝘢𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 genuinely might be the most fun movie ever made. It is insane how dozens of past and present summer blockbusters with hundred million dollar budgets are simply towered over on the fun scale by the sheer hangout vibes of Richard Linklater's second film. This is cinematic escapism in its purest form. It doesn't set out to show a deep insight into the human condition, or address political issues, and shockingly, doesn't even really tap into the rebellion…

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003
I truly have no words. Perfectly builds out its fantasy world with such nuance and care that any minor moment of tension feels like the end of the world. It is so hard to talk about the abundance of things that makes this perfect. So for the moment, I won't. Next time I watch these, I will try to sum up what makes them so good.

Do the Right Thing 1989
Seeing this in a theater is one of the single best things that has ever happened to me.

The Whale 2022
There's nothing really to be said here. The Whale is a movie that seems to serve absolutely no purpose, and gives no reason to exist. I tried to look at this through multiple lenses, and it fails at all. As a pure drama, it's shallow and boring, it doesn't even try to be a mood piece of any sorts, and it is straight up not a character study. It just exists to provoke emotions without even giving reasons to make us feel the emotions. Awful movie.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania 2023
Uninteresting, dull, and just plain boring. It's hard to even say anything about Quantumania, it's an extremely thin movie with practically no layers of depth to it. Not to say I didn't expect that, I definitely did, but like, this wasn't even fun. Just a brainless, lazy turn out from Marvel Studios.

Alien 1979
Love the way this looks at the most stripped down, terrified side of humans. These characters are caught so off guard by a threat they could have never prepared for, that we get to see perhaps the most raw look of true terror and fear. I can understand why the slow, methodical first 40 minutes or so of this can turn some people off, as it is a very slow burn where not much happens plot, or even character wise.…

The Dark Knight 2008
I've seen it so many times, that I've literally lost count, yet every single time I see The Dark Knight, it remains one of the most slick, engaging, enrossing, entertaining, smart, and rich movies I've seen. Everything here just works so effectively to create something truly special. It's epic with bombastic action scenes with impeccable tension, it has smaller moments of intimacy throughout, all of which while managing to drive home its various themes. It's not quite my favorite movie anymore, but as an aspiring filmmaker, it's hard for me to find a film I respect more than The Dark Knight.

Raiders of the Lost Ark 1981
Still a blast. Spielberg going for a more laid back approach compared to his technical and budgeted frustrations of Jaws and Close Encounters Of The Third Kind allowed him to tap into something a little more personal, and more loose. Despite that though, he's still in full control here, and all the best qualities of filmmaking the Jewish master perfects are still here. The performances are swell, the music is peak, and the cinematography is some of the best of…

Miami Vice 2006
The feeling of watching Miami Vice is one hard to put into words. It's a mixed feeling of adrenaline, tenderness, awe, love, and tragedy It's a very maximalist movie, fully going in on Michael Mann's filmmaking style, mainly prioritizing that over everything else. And while that may be turn off for some, and I can see why, I think it makes the film all more beautiful. Miami Vice is truly one of the most admirable films ever made, because it…
