What gets me about this movie and what's always made this stick with me is the end. The last 5 minutes of this movie after the assault sum up Erika's whole life and show us how sad it's always been for her. She's standing in the middle of the concert hall lobby with bruises on her face and tears in her eyes and yet no one cares. They just put on a fake smile, talk about themself, and wait for her to perform for them like a monkey. Her whole life has been devoted to trying to prove herself and impress others, but no one really cares. It's so sad. Erika is one of the deepest, most fleshed-out characters of any movie ever made and Isabelle Huppert absolutely delivered one of the best performances ever.
