Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl ★★★★

Jack Sparrow is such a pirate. And Gore Verbinski is SUCH a director. It’s a bit bloated, but its all in service of great action that is fun and satisfying, and the pacing is still solid. If the second Pirates managed to do the exposition as good as this, I’d love it just the same. I still only dislike the CGI ghost pirates, who aren’t very threatening. I remember seeing the teaser for this when I was much younger, which was set to Coppola’s Dracula music, which may’ve set my expectations for scares too high.

Maybe the last time I loved a modern blockbuster.
