Knives Out is an embarrassment of a film. Once again Rian Johnson attempts to subvert our expectations only this time the expectations are that we may see an enjoyable film with that subverted to turn out to be a terrible slog.
The acting is so cartoonishly bad it bordered on being an SNL skit. There is no great mystery at the heart of this film. To borrow an analogy from a character in the film, the movie is like a doughnut with a big hole in the middle. The social politics surely will entice viewers to engage deeper with the movie but isn’t enough of a bandaid for what is truly a boring disaster of a film.
