Enfant du Siècle’s review published on Letterboxd:
A series of murders of young women convulsed a small village in South Korea in the mid-1980s. A group of detectives attempts to solve the case while dealing with rivalries, their own incompetence and brutality, as well as the helplessness and frustration of not having any certainty. Sarinui chueok is one of those films that unfolds cautiously and gradually entraps in its disquieting atmosphere; moreover, it is full of nuances that endow it with great complexity, and the way in which the progressive evolution of the characters and the story are presented is a departure from the conventions of the genre. Impressive work by Bong Joon-ho; realistic and bitter portrait of inexorable events marked by tragedy and fatalism.
