I just got back from Midsommar, and oh boy! but I wanted to quickly log last night's viewing first.
Yup, I'm giving this 4 stars. I'm doing this. This is the kind of movie that would be a perfect fit for MST3K/Rifftrax, but is also really great? One of my new favourite Vincent Price performances, no one will ever be as cool as him throwing off a witty one liner like it's nothing, like he could do it in his sleep, which he probably could! I love that man.
This movie is also something. What an odd idea, and it shouldn't work, but it does. Everyone just gamely goes along with "yup, there sure is a weird bug thing that lives in your spine and I guess gets bigger when you add fear to it, like a sea monkey?" Just go with it, you'll have a good time. Also, the slightly contained glee with which William Castle introduces his mad film experiments is a delight, he seems like he'd have been fun to hang out with. And this has an awesome effect, it still made me go "ooo" in 2019! So simple, but so effective.
