Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ★★★★½

From Pam Ferris playing a monstrous muggle aunt blowing up n haplessly drifting into the sky, to Harry’s glorious first ride soaring on Buckbeak, Prisoner of Azkaban is this series at it’s most essential and peak. The use of locations instead of sets a minimal but effective tweak, replacing cutesy Columbo with auteur Alfonso Cuaron a fairly bigger and more pertinent revamp, and ultimately well judged, ushering in maturer story-telling that let this franchise finally cast it’s spell. 7 year old me was convinced magic was real n I’m still not entirely unconvinced otherwise. The time-travel trump-card hoodwink still hits sooo sweetly
