An incredible first feature - the power of a movie where everyone understands how sexy Olivia Colman is (when she came out in that red silk dress I gasped).
So unusual to see such frank portrayals of women and motherhood, it had the audience cackling on multiple occasions, but it’s not at all condescending or judgemental.
Olivia Colman's delivery is perfect for this, even if she is kind of playing herself at times. Dakota Johnson seems to be channeling the same energy she had in A Bigger Splash. Paul Mescal must have the tiny shorts in his contract at this point.
