Memoria ★★★★

nziff 2021 #13

One of the most visceral viewing experiences I’ve had in some time - I don’t think I’ve ever had such a strong physical reaction to a singular sound effect. Every time that guttural bang sounded my heart pounded - a uniquely cinematic experience.
Reminded me a lot of Personal Shopper - although the films are materially very different the subjects of both have an inexplicable connection to the universe, and in a way Memoria is as much of a ghost story as anything.
There’s a definite sense that time and memory are liquid, that unrelated events are actually deeply connected. This ambiguity might be confounding for some people, but I think it’s mysteries will linger on my mind.
