the score for first cow is quite minimal, but i love how the main times it’s used, it’s to introduce cookie out in the wild with a melody that perfectly suits him, and then it reappears for him whenever he is alone. it’s like his guide, or a little expression of the goodness he carries around. similarly, a new theme is introduced when we first see the cow coming to the shore. equally tender, but somehow more certain, like it’s implying its importance & worth – a symbol of change. but when cookie first sees the cow, their themes blend together to create something that feels beyond how we know them separately. it’s rooted in cookie’s admiration, but is also the sound of a birth of an idea, and a way to reach a dream.
