When We Were Kings 1996
A piece of classic pro wrestling promotion so good that it could sell me a ticket to a nearly-50 year old fight.

Giant Killer 1984
Fredruary
The most boring shit you’ll ever watch, but then suddenly there is an insane car stunt that makes you think it will be interesting.
Bo Svenson brandishes a revolver so big you have to wonder what he’s compensating for. Fred Williamson shows up for a bit to fly a helicopter.
How come every Italian movie filmed in Italy is the most exciting thing you’ve seen regardless of how boring it is, but every Italian movie shot in America is like watching paint dry?

Timecop 1994
What I liked the most about this movie was that it was campy and corny. What I disliked about it was that it wasn't campy and corny enough. It tried to be too serious.
_________________________________________Stunts - 70/100 | And the action was awful. The stunts were somewhat good though!
Narrative - 41/100 | I really liked the villain. He was hella manipulative, and Ron Silver gave a funny yet menacing performance. He had great screen presence. That's pretty much…

Blue Tiger 1994
Grendel: The Devil's Legacy... the movie.
When her son dies in a botched gangland hit, a woman (Virginia Madsen) reinvents herself, going from "Occupation Mother" to a heavily tattooed, Japanese speaking, gun totting, waitress in a seedy club. These changes are motivated by revenge, having caught a glimpse of the ink of the Yakuza responsible. Her spiritual guide is a burnt out tattoo artist (Harry Dean Stanton), the degree with which the woman puts faith in his suspect myths no…

The Last Border 1993
Not even Jürgen Prochnow as the leader of evil bikers can save this post apocalyptic action/adventure. Wait... is it an action/adventure? I know it's classified as one but it lacks action and the sense of adventure.
This is the typical lone hero building himself up again to get revenge on the characterless villains that did him wrong. Probably the most simple action premise out there, yet the film feels like this story is too complicated for itself.

Cocaine Bear 2023
Concept is one thing. Execution is a whole another ballpark. Even a premise that seems like a stupid but fun gorefest on paper can turn into a low energy, tonally confused, largely unfunny bore. Especially if its in the hands of someone like Elizabeth Banks, who can't even direct herself out of a paper bag, much less having the type of kinetic showmanship and craft that's actually needed to pull off an effective man-versus-nature horror flick. Seeing Ray Liotta one…

Snipers 2022
Great yet simple war flick about a group of Chinese Snipers trying to secure beneficial intelligence while being trapped by American troops. Was surprised by one of the American soldiers portrayed by Jonathan Kos-Read (Cao Cao) who gives a great performance (and has a decent dubbed voice or maybe it's actually him idk) as John. Then you have the Captain (played by AJ Donnelly) whose dubbed voice is godawful which is typical for foreign actors. Another foreign actor who I…

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter 2016

Police Story 3: Super Cop 1992
Believe it or not, this was my first time watching the original Cantonese language cut of "Police Story 3"! Yes, I'd only ever seen the cut & dubbed edition that Dimension Films released into American theaters as "Supercop" and, boy, what a difference this version makes: the original language and soundtrack give this a much more serious and hard-edged feel, perhaps closer to John Woo's action output than Jackie Chan's usual comedic fare. I think every time a studio released a…

The Hollywood Knights 1980
A snapshot of some broken reality, trapped on October 31st, 1965, where 40-year-old high school students band together over their love of cars (I guess?) to throw what amounts to a low-grade fit over the closure of their favorite drive-in restaurant. Next door, at the local garage, still more middle-aged students are coming face-to-face with the growing likelihood of mortality as one of their number prepares to embark on a journey that will likely be his last. Cops and nerds…

DOA: Dead or Alive 2006
An American movie based on a Japanese video game directed by a Hong Kong director shot in China. We call that a recipe for kino in this joint and it absolutely cooked. Corey Yuen didn’t deserve to be banished to the shadow realm just as we didn’t deserve this awesome movie - but it happened anyway.
