Kristof Szabó’s review published on Letterboxd:
If James Wan purposely spent the better part of the 2010's writing/directing/producing formulaic, but highly lucrative PG-13 ghost stories, just so that he can have enough studio clout to make this wild, unhinged ride...now that's some true madman gonzo shit. A supernatural slasher having blood-soaked sex with 80's Italian horror while having Cronenbergian body mutilations, a splashwave of suspense and gore with Sam Raimi-esque camerawork and a face-melting climax that made me grin like a goddamn madman. All the earnest camp and "throwing ideas at the wall" efforts of a great B movie but with a big budget. Ferociously energetic, gleefully evil, and outrageous fun. Fuck logic, style is the substance.
