The Mummy's Tomb

The Mummy's Tomb ★★★

Hooptober gave me a good excuse to finish off my old Universal Monsters DVD boxset. This is the beginning of the Lon Chaney "Kharis" trilogy.

The story is pretty straightforward and the first fifteen minutes is a flashback from the previous installment "The Mummy's Hand."

But once this one gets going I liked it- it has a nice creepy atmosphere with the Mummy lurking around in the shadows. He looks really menacing too- and Chaney is unrecognizable under the extensive makeup.

I didn't care for the happy ending though- it really felt tacked on. Universal horror pictures should end with the monster being tragically killed and/or a castle blowing up.
