"Heart of Darkness" with King Kong and Samuel L. Jackson as Colonel Kurtz.
After seeing some initial poor reviews, I was heartened that many seemed to embrace this as a fun giant monster flick. And it was okay. I liked the quality cast, excellent CGI effects, and Vietnam War setting. The monster fights were as advertised with some cool moments.
But for me, I wished its positive attributes seemed to add up to something more substantial. The writing was mediocre and the attempts at comic relief with the John C. Reilly character seemed forced and out of place.
I'll probably watch this again at some point- maybe it will really grab me in a way it failed to this time.
