Ryan Seder’s review published on Letterboxd:
Abandon all compassion.
Has no interest in being subtle, or censoring itself. In your face/graphic storytelling and I wouldn't have it any other way.
The score is a highly underrated aspect of the film, and really helps to land the emotional blows the film throws your way.
The final scene never fails to bring me to tears.
Still one of my favorites.
Sidenote, I have only made it 15 minutes into the film with the English Dub. I tried again this time and only made it to 10 minutes. I beg of you, if you are interested in seeing this film, and somehow are reading this review, please watch the subtitled version. Whoever the cowboy american is who did the English voice acting for Choi Min-sik's character deserves to have his achilles tendon slashed. I have only seen/listened to one scene with him using his voice and it's absolutely cringe-worthy. Just watch with sub, you will thank me.
