My 200th Letterboxd review is…Maniac Cop!  It is an inauspicious milestone, though, because while this had the ingredients to become an exploitation classic it too often shuffles when it should strut. The mystery behind the killer isn’t very mysterious, the red herrings are half-hearted, and Bruce Campbell seems positively subdued coming off his gonzo performance in the previous year’s Evil Dead II. I enjoyed it but I constantly thought there was a better movie in there trying to get out…

Watched this on Tubi while I continue to pine for a proper 4k Blu ray release...

Yes, this movie is problematic. It may have held the record for "most expensive example of dude publicly processing his marital issues" until Elon Musk bought Twitter. Lucy isn't really a narrative film, it's a Luc Besson mood board. It's a daft New Age pseudo-science seminar interrupted by Korean gangsters, stock footage, French cops, nature documentaries and ScarJo reprising her role as an alien.

That said, this is the third time I've watched it all the way through and I can't stay mad at it. What a fun trainwreck.
