Starts off slowly, but it won me over with offbeat comedy once the action started. The mall scene is basically a family-friendly Chopping Mall.
I know, it’s dated and problematic now and could never be made now. It’s sexist and racist and has consent issues. But this is a movie I’ve been watching since I was a kid and it’s kinda grandfathered in for me. No movie says the ‘80s more than Sixteen Candles to me. Still makes me laugh, even if it makes me cringe.
Finally got around to watching this. Feels highly, HIGHLY overrated to me. I can’t believe this won best picture. Must’ve been a bad year. It’s...fine.
Instead of New York accents and Italians, we have Boston accents and Irish. TOTALLY different from most Scorsese movies! I audibly groaned in the first couple minutes when Gimme Shelter started playing. You can’t use the same damn song in every movie no matter how good it is.
I also groaned at the obvious inclusion…
