LOL at Robert Eggers whining about how this wasn't weird enough, or whatever. A pretentious Conan the Barbarian that delivers all of the Wagnerian chest-beating you could hope for, while also displaying a little self awareness about how deeply unpleasant these men with swords tended to actually be. (Best epitomized by a testosterone-fueled siege action scene that ends up morphing into something closer to COME AND SEE.)

I was a little worried in the first half by how ridiculous this premise is, but thankfully the film is fully aware of what it's seeding. Catfishes the audience with the promise of a Death Wish style revenge thriller, but it's really more about finding hope in the face of the random cruelty of life. But funny!
Solid comedic performances contrast well with Mads straight man/dramatic lead. Some good brutality. Just overall kinda heartwarming, strangely enough.
