Significantly more powerful and more resonant than The Trial of the Chicago 7 could ever hope to be. Although it can sometimes be a pretty conventional historical drama in terms of its visual presentation, Judas and the Black Messiah delivers on a strong story and even stronger emotional performances. It’s not my favorite of the Oscar contenders, but I wouldn’t be mad if it picked up a few awards on Sunday night.
