Back when being a con artist took some work. Now you just launch your own cryptocoin, pair up with an asshole influencer and sell quick! All con, no art. Great little story with Spielberg really dialing in the period to the max. Hanks & DiCaprio made a terrific duo as well. Interesting Christmas movie where the holiday holds significance over Frank and Carl's relationship.

    Side Note
The moment when James Brolin steps into frame in Frank's mom's room should be the universal I fucked your mom face.

How can the same shit happen to the same guy twice?!

Oh John, if you'd only known the trajectory of your life.

Finally found this uploaded to YouTube. The American & Canadian pilot/tv movie to John Woo's early 90s Hong Kong movie. Earlier this year I saw that as well and was surprised it was less seen or widely available. This remake cuts its own path with similar themes, but it's own ideas. My biggest problem is largely the plot is dead in the water boring. There's some Woo humor and some emotional close calls that get played up.

    Even stranger is when…

I can definitely appreciate the 60s Bond vibes. That said I feel like to love this you gotta love that style and I'm more half and half. When it really gets going with heists and impressively orchestrated action it's reasonably fun. Never quite as much as I hope to have, but there's definitely charm and a solid story and characters there. Mileage may vary.

Gotta love old docs where they just shoot people talking while smoking or framed by a messy desk with books strung about under shitty light. That awesome lived in world that goes away with slicker modern yet flattened doc work in my opinion. Certainly with anything like this it's always hearing from the first hand witnesses that's the most engrossing. Being present for the birth of the atomic weapons age - the ultimate foreboding feeling.
