A low-rent Rashomon, but with impeccable production. Visually, it's amazing and the performances are good, but the storytelling kind of lost me

good music, good moods, somewhat ridiculous.

  • TÁR

    ★★★★

Pretty powerful. This film has a brief Wikipedia editing sequence near the beginning. Once you settle into the pacing, it's nice to see a film like this, inhabiting the posh world of classical orchestras and high society...

The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)

    ★★★½

I identify with all of Dustin Hoffman's obscure septugenarian artist class signaler namedrops: Stroszek, Buddenbrooks, trashing shitty video art installations at MoMA...

Good performances, good family dynamics, funny... only slightly cheesy. Another solid Baumbach effort.

    ★★★

personal memoir of documentary subjects shot across a career. structured as short vignettes each beginning with a title card introducing the location in the world and some brief context.

never seen anything like it. lots of variety, but I appreciated the first half more than the second.

    post apocalyptic sci-fi!

very fun. amazed that someone could rise up through the soviet-era Polish political system and direct such a cool film with such a bleak critique of human bureaucracies

  • The Pass

The Soviets produced some super cool animated sci-fi!

"Sixteen years after their spaceship crashes on a desolate, monster-heavy planet, a group of survivors sets out on an ill-fated mission of self-preservation involving condensed milk, space dragons and goatworms"
