If you've read my reviews for Creepy, Funny Games, The Strangers or Eden Lake, then you know I'm a sucker for that niche subgenre of bleak, oppressively nihilistic horror. The kind that spits in the faces of heroes and happy endings. That spends most of its runtime hinting at something more sinister, before gutpunching you with a finale that will leave you feeling ultimately dejected. I think it's safe to say Speak No Evil falls into that category.
But as someone who struggles with severe social anxiety, I found the increasingly awkward interactions to be the scariest parts.
