What starts out like a decent action B-movie, giving its protagonist a dilemma we haven't seen a thousand times before, turns into an endlessly tedious and illogical game of waiting, watching and going from a to b to stall running time for the film in the second act.

It's a (neatly filmed) disaster. When you've almost fallen asleep as a viewer, it's off to the finale, which threatens to catch you emotionally at only one point...without the film making anything…

A tough one. The film has been described as a mix of action and comedy, and while the action unfortunately gets out of hand in a rather uninspired manner, shooting the viewer with CG muzzle flashes, the humor tends to have a shadowy existence. At least in the bitchy marriage scenes between Tom Sizemore and Vanessa Angel there is an amusing atmosphere. A little more of that and less shooting, a little more characterization in the script instead of characters…

    HOT SOUP RIOT

Intense HBO-TV-movie by John Frankenheimer who earned a deserved Emmy for this. Set in 1971 the movie depicts the Attica prison riot in 1971 with a great ensemble cast. For an early 90's TV movie it's a very strong one, even going far with blood. But it's the performances and Frankenheimer's captivating style of directing the movie that will make you remember this one.

It's on Amazon Prime Video right now and I'm glad I was able to watch it since the German DVD is long out of print.

    UNCLE BUCK: PTSD

This will be one of my shortest reviews ever. Go and watch this movie. It's an inspired mixture from all the things you loved in the inventive genre films of the late 80's and early 90's.

The less one knows about THE GUEST the better. Trust me. I didn't even watched the trailer. Just had complete trust in director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett and it was such a rewarding experience.

If you need proof it's a great movie; my wife loved it and she's not even into genre flicks and 80's films.
