Still one of the best meta horror flicks ever, birthed out of the demise of traditional slashers at a time when great horror movies were few and far between.
The script is sharp, a perfect balance of taking the piss out of slashers while also being a damn exceptional slasher in itself. It often messes with your expectations, knowing exactly when you're anticipating a jump scare and instead withholding it. Scream set the stage for the glut of lesser late-'90s slasher movies that followed. Such a classic. (And the nostalgia doesn't hurt the score, either).
