It’s very impressive how the film juggles with so many genres and ideas while never feeling like it’s doing too much. This could’ve been a complete mess of a film, but everything was handled so well and kept under control. Im so glad the story wasn’t just “I have to save the world”; no matter what batshit stuff was going on, the film at its core always remained a family drama. So many cool movie references are sprinkled in too, I loved the Wong Kar Wai / In the Mood for Love homage.
I had such a fun time with this film, but the way that it expresses its themes were a little too heavy handed that it never really impacted me emotionally.
