Halloween ★★★

Halloween carries with it a reputation that I can only personally conceive being related to an enduring reflection on the unexpected meteoric success it experienced on release. It is certainly not due to its originality: although considered a formative horror film, much of the content had been seen before, and it’s not even the first holiday themed slasher. Carpenter’s direction is noteworthy, though I would attribute the score as his greatest contribution; Dean Cundey’s cinematography does the rest of the heavy lifting. As a Halloween baby, nothing would be more fitting than for this to be my favourite horror film, but it is well down the pecking order. A solid slasher—nothing more, nothing less.
