Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2018
(Sony Pictures Animation Marathon counting down to Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, 22/27)
We did it gang, we finally did it. We have finally entered the Sony’s Animated Masterpiece and the start of the Sony Renaissance. I seriously just can’t believe I get to finally revisit one of my favorite animated movies of all time and my 2nd favorite movie of all time. And we are officially getting a trilogy which it’s already going to be one of the greatest animated…

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2018
It’s crazy-hard to properly describe how incredible this movie is. Everything works in perfect harmony. The animation looks like a comic book, influenced by Miles interests. The soundtrack that fits everything like a glove. The characters are insanely entertaining—Miles’ dad, washed-up Peter Parker, distraught Kingpin, conflicted Uncle Aaron, devious Dr Olivia Octavian, Gwen and the multiple Spideys, and of course Miles himself. The ‘What’s Up Danger’ sequence is probably the greatest ‘superhero learning their powers’ moment ever, and is followed…

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2018
The more I watch this, the better does it get, which is rare to happen for me with a superhero film. However, the visuals are so exciting and enthralling that it was simply impossible to keep my eyes away from this spectacle, even though I already knew everything that was going to happen. And that's really the essence of what a good film should be about, especially within this genre.
Even though it basically reimagines the origin story of Spider-Man, this animated film still manages to reinvent the entire genre and create something completely unique and genre-bending that we haven't ever seen before.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2018
Given the sheer number and profile of Hollywood superhero movies since, well, Sam Raimi’s take on Spiderman back in 2002, it seems strange that animation, which seems such a natural fit for the source material, has barely featured at all. Into the Spiderverse shows the rich possibilities with wit, flair and humour, while showing the kind of heart that its live-action counterparts so often lack. It is a joyous experience, whereas most recent superhero films are not.
I was concerned…

Star Wars: The Last Jedi 2017
I’m actually one of those people who defend this movie and called it underrated and amazing, so I’m with them. It’s also one of the movies I like, but everyone else hates.

Zodiac 2007
Rewatching Zodiac on a whim was probably an odd choice but one I don't regret. I truly adore David Fincher's moody, meticulous serial killer thriller - it no doubt tops my ranking of the director's incredible filmography. The word riveting is probably overused but it certainly applies here. Fincher takes the All the President's Men approach and injects an even greater sense of forward momentum, delivering a piece that is engrossing in its well-paced mystery and terrifying in its stark depiction of horrendous violence. A film about obsession crafted by the most obsessive of filmmakers.

Old 2021
I really love Shyamalan's films, not because they're great films or something, no because he always presents different experiences that no one ever imagines, Old is one of his unique and strange experiences, just the description of the film makes you look forward to it, the real thriller begins the moment they enter that island, horrifying and exciting moments, cinematography is beautiful, and Trevor Gureckis score is also awesome. Shyamalan also presents a beautiful core in his film about family…

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) 2020
I remember when this first appeared, there seemed to be a lot of little wankers stomping their feet about this and that and how it's not universe this and that.
I always thought it would be fun to see Margo Robbie beat the shit out of bad guys with a baseball bat. Turns out, I wasn't wrong. This was completely fun! Good on Robbie for producing this! I hope there are more.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2018
so here’s the thing about superheroes.
i grew up with the bust and then the boom. there was a time when as far as the film world was concerned, superheroes were dead. there were some exceptions of course, perhaps the biggest being the x-men but even they had fizzled out with a lack-luster third showing. i was ten years old and i was dimly aware of comic books and yellow panels. it was 2008. no one cared about superheroes.
naturally…
