Joe Dante straddles a fine line balancing the comedy and horror aspects of this holiday classic. At some points it gets so goofy, it's as if the movie grabs said fine line, stretches it out, and starts tap dancing in it. And it's not even as looney as the superior sequel.

I want 100 Gizmos. Wait- I just remembered that's literally the premise of the movie. Never mind. I just want one Gizmo to hang with.
