Diana Geraldine’s review published on Letterboxd:
That’s gotta violate an ordinance.
Messy, and still a lot too many of the MCU’s weak points very visible (poor pacing, a weird script, inconsistent lighting) but honestly, I really did enjoy this. A step above the first Doctor Strange in scope perhaps, and surely much stronger in direction than most if not all MCU films. Giving directors stronger creative control helps, and the idiosyncrasies in Raimi’s direction here are marvelous— lots of superimposition, Dutch angles, and many other formalist tricks that the normally safe MCU wouldn’t dare to touch. Story wasn’t very tight, but as a film— much better than most of the rest of Phase 4.
