The Northman

The Northman ★★★★

Robert Eagers took a 17th century Hamlet and transported it into visceral 1st Century AD ,creating and almost mythic and barbaric Viking world.
The stage is set for a primeval gory vengeance, where the son of The slain King Of Denmark endures hell to make him a Viking superman in the quest to seek vengeance against his uncle who murdered his father and took off with his mother.
Of course, there is a twist in the mother, son relationship. but for that you will have to wait till the end.
What makes this movie special is the whole gothic cinematography and disregard for human life, which takes us back to the Neanderthals but keeps the story relevant and repetitive for future generations.
Hamlet is William Shakespeare's greatest play and is sure to test the passages of time.
