Mike de Raaf’s review published on Letterboxd:
This was as magnificently over the top as I had hoped. I was lucky to catch this on the big screen at a cheap matinee with no 3D. Kong is exactly what I wanted it to be. Exciting battles, colourful environments, self indulgent cinematography, and a cast of disposable humans fated to varying degrees of vicious death. Love it.
John C Reilly is brilliant. This is the kind of movie I wanted Gareth Edward's Godzilla to be. The human plot threads were not annoying. They were serviceable. That is all they needed to be. Simple, brief, unobtrusive and well distributed between monster battles. Sam Jackson is perfectly cast here with an outrageous performance to match the energy of the film.
I am looking forward to this guy's take on Metal Gear. Grey Fox indeed.
