Bullitt

Bullitt

For the longest time I thought the titular "Bullitt" was the name of the car because the only thing I knew about this film was the famous San Francisco car chase scene. I thought Bullitt was going to be a fun little action movie about an outlaw who loves his car and drives fast like a bullet or something. Turns out I was wrong and "Bullitt" is the name of the cop that drives the car. I guess that means the car's actual name is "Bullitt's Monster." A brilliant directorial choice by Yates, to make this film a modernist adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein– though I worry that aspect will be lost on most audiences, as said subtext requires you to completely wrongly believe "Bullitt" is the name of the car and to also not really know anything else of note about Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

I was baking lemon cakes while I watched this. Cool chase! Neat shots! Lalo Schifrin rules! Pablo Ferro's titles are weird but perfectly 60s in a way that makes them good actually!
