Paging through the reviews, I'm a little surprised the character work left so many people cold. I guess I tend to view the "Rogue One" crew more collectively than as individuals (although I think they're actually really well-characterized, especially considering it's a 2-hour one-off; really I blame the generally un-memorable names ['Jyn Erso' and 'Saw Gererra' excepted] for a lot of that lack of popular connection). And it's *their* collective arc that I find... poignant, I guess. These misfits are searching for something to *do*, some sort of purpose, and find it in that almost unthinking "give me liberty or give me death!" type impulsive heroism that's endemic to these films... then when they really go through with it, the reality of that "or death" part eventually sinks in, and each one has a time or opportunity to give up, turn back, run away, but not a single one of them does. It's beautiful, really, and as genuinely affecting as these movies get; that it's in a film that's so much dang *fun* actually reinforces that (and vice-versa). This is one of exactly two movies (The Last Jedi) in the franchise that make me feel any real emotion besides "rah rah" excitement, and I dare say this one is the more powerful.

Iunno, I guess this is just Extremely My Shit, as they say.
