SUMMER 2017 CRITERION CHALLENGE: FILM #52

About as incredible as I remember. Andrei Tarkovsky's The Mirror is one of the most sincere and profound portraits of the simplicities of life ever filmed. It's hypnotizing and poetic and beautiful. A series of random events that come rushing back into frame as if recalling a memory. But the memories are fading, everything is distorted and the moments never remain. Tarkovsky's work is one of the singular greatest directorial achievements in cinema. Margarita Terekhova. Margarita Terekhova. Margarita Terekhova. The shot of the burning barn is one of the best in film history. As are most of the frames in this film.
