“There’s no normal life, Wyatt. There’s just life. Now get on with it.”
George P. Cosmatos lands in the old west to tell the tale of Wyatt Earp, and what a tale it is. I think the script’s condensing is noticeable in its subplots and characters that are setup and unresolved or rushed to a conclusion that feels semi-forced. At the same time though, Kurt Russell and his gang of mustached men are cinematic charisma incarnate. Russell and Val Kilmer in particular are fantastic and each has their share of great moments and one-liners. Combine that with well-shot action, an all-star cast, and beautiful cinematography, and you’ve got yourself a highlight in Cosmatos’ filmography and the western genre.
