Exodus: Gods and Kings

Exodus: Gods and Kings ★★★

100-word review: Why do I, while watching this, feel like Joel Edgerton, at any minute, is gonna burst into an orchestral cover of The Sound of Silence? Between this and Noah, 2014 was a huge year for cinematic adaptations of Biblical stories, an honestly? Neither film is as bad as the rating would make you believe in my opinion. As an epic retelling, Exodus: Gods and Kings is competent enough, as its director has proven he can deliver on in the past; it's in the 'smaller stories', like the (lack of) deepening of Moses' relationship with 'secondary' characters that the film stumbles.
