Welcome to The Rock
Gets better and more enjoyable with every watch.
I used to have my doubts about Rays performance in this, it feels like he doesn’t really fit in well with the rest of the cast but thinking about the ending, maybe that was the point. Still can’t help but imagine our Val doing the role instead, everything happens for a reason aye.
I know Pesci gets all the praise in this and rightfully so (he got his Oscar didn’t he) but…
An odd addition to De Palma’s filmography, I’m not sure this movie suits his loud, colourful style. I think it needed a more discreet filmmaker.
There’s some heavy shit in this and some of it is handled in a bizarre manner.
It’s still a good film and the cast are superb, even if Sean Penn and his boys are overplaying it a little bit.
Fox is perfect as a babyface in the unfamiliar jungle, surrounded by pretty bad fucking people.
It wasn’t a fun watch, I never need to see this again.
A remarkable picture.
As a wrestling fan, I’m always sceptical of movies accurately portraying how it works.
It’s fake I hear you cry… this just lets me know that you know fuck all. Sorry I’m just shootin’
And despite an absolutely shambolic portrayal of Ric Flair (seriously it’s one of the worst casting decisions going) it doesn’t reflect on the picture as a whole and it features the most accurate wrestling scenes I’ve seen.
One of my favourites of 2023,…
Fuck me this was really fucking good.
If you’re into the plot, you’re going to have a great time. Not sure the characters, in particular the investigators are fleshed out very well, but the flashbacks of what happened and “whodunnit” are exceptional.
One of Parks first pictures? Damn I was close to giving this five stars. Tremendous filmmaking.
