Malignant ★★★★½

Quite possibly director James Wan's most bonkers film to date (and coming after gonzo blockbusters like Furious 7 and Aquaman, that's quite a remarkable accomplishment), Malignant is a wickedly gruesome and deliriously bananas love letter to the giallo films of Dario Argento, Mario and Lamberto Bava, and Lucio Fulci, packed with gleeful Sam Raimi-esque camp, jaw-dropping gore-drenched set-pieces, utterly chilling imagery (including David Cronenberg-style body horror), striking visual flair, and an achingly sincere emotional core.
