  So this one was special, and not the Special Edition, I mean. I was given the rarest of opportunities from the Academy to see an original 70mm Academy print of Star Wars struck in 1981. The original version. Scratches and all. No Special Edition touch-ups. I’ve only ever seen this version on the horrible pan-and-scan VHS release which I own, but I’ve never seen the movie in a theater, neither version.

  Can you imagine? A Spider-Man movie turning out to be one of the best animated, comic book and, at this point, movies in general, really? There was just absolutely no way. I was wrong, thankfully.

  Two people asked our group if we were sitting in their seats. With five minutes left into the movie. They blocked the final kiss from view because of it. This could not have capped off, for the most part, a relatively amusing screening any better.

  The Cloverfield Paradox 2018

  What I was worried about the idea of Netflix releasing this movie on its platform instead of theaters, back when it was a rumor, was that the experience of watching it would change drastically. Then again, I wouldn’t have known, so what the hell. 

  That being said, my worry became a reality. The Cloverfield Paradox is a fine space thriller. It’s convoluted at some parts and underwhelming in others, but it gets the job done. Another entry into this growing franchise. …
