The Prestige

The Prestige ★★★

The Prestige was released in 2006 and was directed by Christopher Nolan, the movie has a phenomenal cast with Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson, Michael Cain and many more.

This movie is all about these 2 magicians (Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale), who both compete against each other, aiming to out do the other magician. However there obsession for trying to improve their tricks makes for some serious consequences which they will have to live with for the rest of their lives.

I enjoyed this movie, in terms of having a great set of actors who all play this time period really well and give great performances in their roles. The dialogue and cinematography is great especially during the magicians tricks and acts, the effects are done really well making it feel like a real magic show instead of a movie. Some of the plot points are also good and interesting as the stakes are continually raised and the 2 magicians are constantly getting into each other’s heads as their sole focus is to creat better tricks. However this movie just wasn’t for me as I think it is for many others, I found it boring at times and struggled to really engage fully with the movie, that is nothing against the movie and more my general opinion and taste in movies.

Overall I’d rate this movie a 3 ⭐️ I would recommend despite my average rating, because there is a lot of aspects I did enjoy, and appreciate, I think of multiple viewings I would enjoy the movie more.
