David’s review published on Letterboxd:
The Amazing Spider-man was released in 2012 and directed by Marc Webb. The movie stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Sally Field, Martin Sheen and many more.
This movie is all about Peter Parker, an outcast college student who is bitten by a radioactive Spider and receives super powers. A monstrous foe looms over the city and he is forced to use those powers to defeat a villainous monster.
This movie has a slightly different take on Spider-man compared to the Sam Raimi trilogy. This version of Spider-Man feels more frustration about not stopping the killer who got his uncle, and seeks for revenge through aggression and violence. This Spider-Man is darker and has to fight of police and members of the public in order to keep to his overall aim which is defeating the evil scientist Dr Curtis, as he has developed a way to cross breed himself with a lizard and has supernatural powers, which only Spider-man can match. This movie has great action sequences, with great special effects and is highly exciting and entertaining. The movie is fast paced but includes all the major plot points and the visuals in this movie are incredible. The connection between Peter and Gwen Stacy are also better than that of the previous Spider-Man movie. I prefer Gwen Stacy because she doesn’t seem to jump between two different people throughout the movie. There relationship is much stronger and more enjoyable to watch alongside the violent nature of the movie.
Overall I’d rate this movie a 4 and a 1/2 ⭐️ this is a great superhero action movie, there is good action, a dangerous villain with a lot of power, and some good emotion/heart with the relationship with Peter and his uncle as well as with Gwen.
