David’s review published on Letterboxd:
Scott Pilgrim vs the world is a comedy, action and romance movie directed by Edgar Write, so I had high expectations going into the movie, unfortunately I was slightly disappointed. The movie was released in 2010 and stars a great cast with the likes of Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Julie Powers and cameo appearances from Chris Evans and Brie Larson.
The movie is all about a boy named Scott who falls in love instantly after meeting Ramona, however he already has a relationship and after making a tough decision to seek Ramona, he meets one of her ex’s at a band competition. This is where the movie starts to become a little crazy. Scott has to fight off all Ramona’s ex boyfriends as he seeks to win her love and the band competition.
This movie is very different compared to alot of other comedies I’ve seen, this has a strange style but also a unique one. The movie is abit all over the place, and it changes between a few genres. The movie does have some funny scenes but it also gets a little strange, I think it is a bit hiss and miss and is all over the place. The effects are pretty cool however and did stand out in the movie. I thought the ending was pretty decent and brought all of the plot points together.
Overall I’d rate this movie a 3 ⭐️ I think this is a good comedy movie, but definitely has some flaws, maybe not my favourite style for a movie. Let me know your thoughts if you have seen the movie.
