Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Ghostbusters: Afterlife ★★★

Ghost Busters afterlife was released recently in cinema and was directed by Jason Reitman, who is the son too Ivan Reitman (the director for the original ghost busters). This movie uses references to that original film therefore I recommend watching the original movie before this one, unfortunately I was one of those who didn’t see the originals before watching this movie.

This movie is all about a family who move houses and realise that they have a connection to the original ghost busters, particularly the younger ones. There is a connection to the grandparent regarding ghosts and past jobs.

I feel like because I haven’t seen the original movie, this had a much smaller effect on me than it may have for others, for example seeing the van and some of the hints back too the original had no effect for me. I liked the cast in this movie, particulate Paul Rudd however I was abit disappointed as he wasn’t shown enough on screen. The kids both do a decent job, I particularly liked the performance from Logan Kim playing “Podcast”. He had some good lines and brought some good humour during the movie, he has a lot of screen time and I think he delivers well.

The plot for the movie isn’t too clear and takes quite a while to get into it which is abit of a negative, especially at the beginning. The action is decent but is nothing special, the effects are well done but nothing I haven’t seem before. The cgi for the ghosts and villains are pretty cool and you can see a clear development of technology from the original movie. The relationship between the cast members are pretty good and make for a fun, entertaining watch, however the ending is pretty corny and cringy as it all feels abit over the top.

Overall I’d rate this movie a 3 ⭐️ I liked the move in some aspects but I did feel a little disappointed at times. Btw the scene with the marshmallows in the shop was cute.
